Class 3 's trip to Duxford

The weather was good, we set off early with great anticipation, all looking forward to our day at Duxford. Most of us dressed up in our World War 2 evacuee costumes so we really looked the part.Mr Morley and Mrs Lamb came along as extra adult helpers-this meant we could go round in small groups looking at different things of interest to each group.

                                                   One  group tried "milking cows."
My group -they chose the right side of the plane to pose !

How the war was won- a living explanation...
with a little help from some volunteers,,,

planes and boats in place...

and that's how it all ended.

Inside one of the buildings-so much to see...

lots to learn from the information boards...

lots to learn from different people ...

Time for  a  group photo...

and another one!

very serious faces...

all smiles !

Trying the mowers

in the Dig For Victory  garden area

lunch time

a chat with Winston Churchill...

Plenty more to see and do...

a talk from a WW2 soldier about his kit

The soldier met his match-who knew more?

testing the various guns...

A really good day!

Evacuee Day

On Monday 24th class 3 dressed up as World War 2 evacuees. Our lessons were based around our history topic. During the air raid siren we closed the curtains, turned off lights and hid under our desks , As it happened in our  English  lesson we still had to do our English- write a letter home to our parents!
We baked orange biscuits with Mrs Millar-very tasty-who says rations meant no nice things to eat.
Mrs Rowley came in her RAF uniform and put us through our drill paces-some were very good at this- others not so!

gas mask at the ready,,,

ready and waiting...
questions for Mrs Rowley...

drill begins,,,

sorts the men from the boys!
