Sport Relief Day

On Friday 18th March we celebrated Sport Relief by coming to school representing a range of sports.
We had several footballers, as well as rugby, cricket, runners, gymnasts,  a speed skater, boxers,a kick boxer, a swimmer ... to name a few. We had 13 different sports represented in our class.
our 6 footballers

gym, runners- including our own Mo Farah , tennis and basket ball

Our gymnast, runners and our kick boxer all ready for action

More runners and our rugby players getting ready for this weekends Grand Slam final.
Our swimmer, boxer, speed skater, cricketer and Eddie The Eagle Ski jumper.

Now time for our PE- we were trying to complete as many 1 minute challenges in an attempt to convert our scores into miles to see how far we could get from UK to Rio. We decided to multiply our points by 10 to help us make the 5000+ miles.

Our activities were based on our Real PE skills and we used our creativity ( which was the focus of this unit) to pass  and receive the ball in different ways. If a pair or group lost control of the ball then they didn't get the points.

Now we had to keep 2 balls moving...
different groups came up with different patterns and sequences

some throwing as well as rolling - 100% concentration needed to complete the minute successfully

sending and receiving

good athletic stance and rhythm to ensure challenge met

now to complete the sending and receiving whilst moving

for our final challenges we worked as a team- 26 children and 13 balls

we could only have 1 go at each challenge- our first challenge failed!

so we tried a different way

ready for standing and success

As a class we scored 196 points so 1960 miles on our journey to Rio.
I also did the same activity with class 2 and they scored 184 points =1840 therefore we completed 3800 of the5767 miles form London to Rio.

RE and drumming.

RE
For the third part of our Easter story we discussed the lead up to the Crucifixion and the events of Good Friday. Our 3 groups again had a few minutes to recreate a freeze-frame depicting this.
This group knew exactly what to do-who would be there and what their reaction would be.Alongside Jesus are the 2 prisoners who were crucified along with him at Golgotha. You can see the mourners and also the soldiers who disrespectfully were playing a dice game whilst Jesus was nailed to the cross.
A similar scene but with soldiers mocking Jesus.

Djembe Drumming in music.

The year 6 drumming group showed their past experience of djembe drumming-listening to them made me believe we'd been transported to a carnival in Rio-they were fabulous.

Each different instrument fitted perfectly together to create a perfect rhythm.

More Easter drama, volcanoes,Science and Mod Roc.

RE: The Easter Story.
For the second part of the Easter Story we had to create a freeze frame showing The Last Supper.
Whilst Jesus and his disciples celebrate The Passover Meal, Judas is receiving payment to betray Jesus.

The disciples are appalled that their master is completing such a menial task as washing someones feet."Why?"they asked

Judas is looking back- is he regretting his promise to betray Jesus whilst the rest of the disciples enjoy their meal with their leader?

Geography:
Our volcano erupted with a little help from Mrs Millar, some vinegar and bicarbonate of soda- very effective.

We are now learning about earthquakes and made our own seismographs to measure earthquakes( which we represented by shaking our desks!)

Some good "readings "were created.
all hand busy making the seismograph.
What an afternoon- earthquakes and a volcano erupting!

Art/D.T.
Using Mod Roc to create our superheroes.

Messy work but the results will be worth it.

Science
Learning about light we were set the task of proving that light travelled in straight lines.
We had black paper and a torch provided for us!

Elise was the first to think about lining up holes on the 3 sheets and shining the torch through the holes.

All groups proved that light does only travel in straight lines.
