Week 24th - 28th September

Our cross country teams ran in their second races with many children improving their places. Chloe T and Georgie improved from 29th and 19th to come 15th and 16th- a fantastic effort. Our boys team continued to do well with Sam W running despite feeling unwell. Anthony was the front runner for most of the race and came 6th- a personal best for him. Our last race is at the Meres on Wednesday.
Our team .

In English we have been looking at Double Act by J. Wilson and learning about the characters of Ruby and Garnet. To help us understand these better we had several children "Hot Seated" in character whilst the rest of the class asked them questions.
Garnet-the "Little Crumb" being asked questions.

How do you feel when your sister says she is The Big Cheese?

How did you feel when...?

We then wrote a diary style entry as either Ruby or Garnet.
After our diary writing we worked with a partner on peer assessment. We helped each other find 2 stars and a wih relating to our work.
It is good to work with partners.
Watch the school Blog for examples of our writing.I will also put some on the writing displayin school.

week 17th-21st September

Our cross country team ran at Priory Queensway and put heart and soul into doing their best. Every child ran to the best of their ability and gained good team places. Our Y6 boys performed exceptionally with Sam W coming first, Anthony 8th, Isaac 11th and Oliver 15th out of all schools in the Grantham area- about 100 boys and 80 girls. Georgie, as a Y5 girl in her first race ,came 19th- a super first race. Now the children know the course and just how long 1.5km really is , I am sure that they will do just as well in the next 2 races.
Maximum effort-no energy left! However this is not how we cool down in school!

We finished our Sunflower pictures and our display looks wonderful. I hope you agree.

In English we have been learning about active and passive verbs- our role play proved to be a successful way of explaining a difficult subject. We used Cider with Rosie by Laurie Lee and acted out a scene where  Laurie is wrapped in scarves by his sisters and taken to school. Here he is prodded and poked by older children in the rodeo of a playground.
Can your child give you an example of a passive verb and explain how we showed this?
Table 4 show us their interpretations of this scene.
Laurie was wrapped in scarves by his sisters.

Laurie was surrounded and prodded with keen interest by older children. Can you tell who Laurie is?
A good lesson !

New Term, New Class.

Welcome to the new class 3.
We have spent the last 3 days getting to know our new class and learning class routines and expectations .
In maths we are producing work for a school display. We had to brainstorm ideas all about 100. We came up with lots of different ways of doing this. Some explored facts about 100, others made claculations with an answer of 100, others explored different words associated with 100 and others tried different ways of representing 100.Watch out for the work on display when it is finished.
Here are our first photos of class 3 investigating in maths.
