Hot Seating in English

We are writing news reports about aspects of WW2 and need some quotes to go in our reports so we have been hot seating children in the roles of:ARP wardens, people whose houses have been destroyed by bombs, children whose fathers have gone to war, all types of witnesses to the bombings in London, even Churchill and Chamberlain were interviewed!
Children were asked questions- who are you, where were you when the air raid took place, how did you feel, what do you think about the war etc and those who were in the "hot seat2 answered from their chosen point of view. Children ( and me) wrote the responses down so we could use some of these as direct quotes in our news reports next week.
James being asked questions.

Sasha gave fabulous answers as "Churchill."I noted some excellent Churchillian style quotes for the learning wall.

Luca in the role as Chamberlain.

Gracie was a child whose farther was away fighting in the war- she also gave us some excellent quotes empathising with a child in 1940.

I filled 2 A3 sheets with quotes which will go on our learning wall to help us with our writing next week.

Super work- questions asked as well as responses given. Children  who had not experienced hot seating before learned how to asked open questions in order to get a detailed response.

Boxercise in PE with Sophie Allen.

This week Sophie Allen from Inspire+ came to lead our first boxercise session. We were really excited to learn about this new activity. Fist Sophie talked about the safety expectations of her sessions and then we quickly learned how to take guard, left jab and right jab and how to stand correctly.

Next Sophie explained how to use the gloves and pads and when/ when not to punch.

Partners helped to fasten the gloves tightly.

Pads facing inwards means no punching allowed.Grey spots mean aim and jab.

Next activity...

Children with pads had to stand in a space and star jump until another child came to them and then they had to complete 20 quick left, right jabs and then move to another partner.

Star jumps kept children active all the time and also helped the gloved children find a new partner.

But that's not all.... now for ' burpies.'

And finally time to cool down...

and stretch.
More next week...great work from everybody and great fun too.
