Kensuke's Kingdom

Our class novel Kensuke's Kingdom is providing us with lots of different cross curricular  opportunities . As well as our daily  English lessons we have written and performed our own play scripts, completed homework Missing Persons posters, made a display of the island complete with palm tree, coconuts, orangutans, a sloth and shells.
our display-messages in bottles hanging amongst the sea -weed

                                                            Missing Person posters
Michael and Stella-Missing Posters

Children painting shells  in the style of Kensuke- images of blossom tress,Japanese characters, fish and sunsets.Shells are now part of the display-paper ones hanging and real shells at the base of the tree.

Starting to plan the board game.

Children designing and making board games based on kensuke's Kingdom. Characters are used for the counters, clues based on the story, forfeits-"move back 3 spaces - stung by jelly- fish, move forward 2 places - fresh coconuts found " are examples used .

Discussing next steps as a group.

Groups working hard and looking forward to sharing with their peers.
Freeze Frame of drama activity-group portraying the May Day radio call when Michael was first discovered to be missing overboard from the Peggy Sue.

Conscience Corridor( a drama activity)-Should Michael send a message in a bottle or not? The 2 rows gave conflicting views and at the end of the corridor, Michael ( Amelia) had to make her decision-not to send as it would betray Kensuke. The class then voted and it was 14 for Michael to send a message and 14 for him not to send a message! This perfectly shows the conflict that Michael was facing in the story.

Using ICT to create our own Comic Strip Kensuke Stories.

Groups playing the board games that were made earlier-very successful.

Some super clues and forfeits using scenes from the story as inspiration.

All games proved popular with the rest of the class.

Spread out in the corridor.

Any space free was used.

Super work .
