Maths Investigations

On Friday we had 2 maths investigations to do based on addition and subtraction. Could we solve the problems ?
The first one was a maze-could we start and add numbers to finish on 100? How many different ways could we do this? Challenge questions were- what is the smallest number/ biggest number made from start to finish?

The second problem was to find out what the circle value is in different problems with the extension of making their own problem at the end.

Each of the following shapes has a value:

green triangle=7orange rectangle.=17red circle.=?
The value of the circle changes in each of the following problems.
Can you discover its value in each problem, if the value of the shapes are being added together?
(a)=25
(b)=51
(c)=136
(d)=48
(e)=100

Children worked in pairs discussing their ideas and solutions.

Compairing solutions.

Thinking hard...

What did you get?

All smiles as we all agree so we must be correct. Both problems successfully solved by different children. A good way to end the week.

We had all the characters from Charlie and The Chocolate Factory-can you spot-Augustus Gloop, Charlie,Mike Teavee,Veruca Salt(s),Violet Beauregatde ?

Chocolate making- designing and making our own scrumptious creations.

Can you guess who these are?
The Witches, George and his Marvellous Medicine, Danny Champion of The World and  R.Dahl himself from Going Solo.

Back in class- not the usual routine-we had a choice of different activities all based on R.Dahl.

Maths was to cost out making chocolates, wrapping and packaging and what profit to make.

Writing on yellow paper in pencil just as Roald did.

Another chocolate creating group-even crocodiles like chocolate !

Hope no evil spells are created in this chocolate!

Bike Wise

12 Year 5 children have undergone intensive Bike Wise training  over 2 days. They worked all through the rain on Monday and were literally soaked to the skin at the end.
Getting ready with High Vis jackets on.
Checking all understand what is going to happen.

First day so on the school playground initially to check bikes are safe and correct for the road.

All fine so far....

in fact, all is good so far....

Plenty of layers to keep the rain and cold out ( or so we thought!)

Almost ready for the road.

Safety first-instructors and the front and end of our group.

Much better when it is not raining!

And off they go...

All that is left now is for the children to show the instructors that they know what to do correctly and safely in order to gain their Bike Wise badges and certificates.
