Maths Investigations

On Friday we had 2 maths investigations to do based on addition and subtraction. Could we solve the problems ?
The first one was a maze-could we start and add numbers to finish on 100? How many different ways could we do this? Challenge questions were- what is the smallest number/ biggest number made from start to finish?

The second problem was to find out what the circle value is in different problems with the extension of making their own problem at the end.

Each of the following shapes has a value:

green triangle=7orange rectangle.=17red circle.=?
The value of the circle changes in each of the following problems.
Can you discover its value in each problem, if the value of the shapes are being added together?
(a)=25
(b)=51
(c)=136
(d)=48
(e)=100

Children worked in pairs discussing their ideas and solutions.

Compairing solutions.

Thinking hard...

What did you get?

All smiles as we all agree so we must be correct. Both problems successfully solved by different children. A good way to end the week.
