Polar Explorer Workshop.

On Tuesday we welcomed Simon, a polar explorer ( and rainforest/ mountain explorer too) to class 3 to talk about the 'Frozen Kingdom'- our topic this summer term. Simon shared some of his experiences with us, showed us photos, involved us in team building challenges , taught us about the geography and animal of the polar regions and many other things resulting in a fun packed day for class 3.
We were split into teams of 5 or 6 ...

could we work together?

We had to rearrange the cylinders into a pyramid  using elastic- no hands.
Communication was key!

Success!

                                                                       We did it.

The next challenge was a tower: 1 on top of the other.

4 children were chosen to dress in real explorer clothing- Simon took photos of them with a green screen background making it look like they were in the Antarctic.

Learning about Polar animals.

Another team game: how quickly could the team pass through the elastic circle?

Hazards: join the word halves to make hazards that Polar explorers face.

We then saw some pretty 'gross' photos( Simon warned us so we had time to look away!)

Learning about the hazards that explorers face- real photos and real accounts of what happened.

The end of a successful day photo...

...grrr- polar style.

Thank you Simon- a fabulous day- we learnt lots as well as impressing you with our knowledge too.
Here are the photos Simon took...
