Maths, science and some of our displays.

New Year, new start, new beginnings...
Maths
In maths we are looking at measures and how to convert them-not an easy task until you make it into an activity using a washing line and pegs!
Fist children had to decide what to convert into, convert and then order their given measurements. When done they had to attach them to their string washing lines, show them to their peers and ask questions to ascertain if they were in fact correct.
team work- all working together

working out the conversions, ordering and then putting in order

best to lay out measures and place in order

using every spare space in the classroom
we've done and we are confident we are correct

this is easy( an actual comment from this group)

now time to ask questions to see if the rest of the class can convert correctly, Jacob has his groups answers written on the back of his groups cards

making sure everyone is joining in- everyone was asked questions

a different set of measures and more questions asked of the class

a sea of hands keen to join in

everyone felt they could convert units of measure-length, mass and capacity
The recording in our books was even better-these photos as our evidence!

Science
Our first topic is learning about The Earth and Beyond. To make it more practical we represented the sun, earth and moon using spherical objects to show the relative sizes and movements of the 3.
Our sun, earth and moon , with direction from their peers and from Mrs Chadwick, moved( or not in the case of the sun!)
just the sun and earth, rotating, spinning and orbiting!

now the moon joins in

thank you boys-that has made it really clear

Now for day and night...

The sun( a torch), the earth spinning on its axis( child operated spinning of the globe) and observing how Great Britain on the globe came and went into light and dark thus representing how we get day and night.

without our white board light it became really clear how half the earth was in darkness and half in light

each table had a turn representing this

as well as this we had books at hand to help us find out more facts

Some of our displays.
Our WW 2 display form last terms History Topic.

Our Blitz art work produced a stunning display.
