PE with 7 children

We enjoyed PE with only 7 children. It was slightly different as we had to design the activities for the rest to do, We had to select the equipment , plan the activity and the associated rules. Finally the rest had to try them out and evaluate them.
Ben and Jay planning how to steal the equipment from the other team and win.
James playing Jordan, Katie and Pippa's " space invader "game. Here craetivity, communication and team work skills were needed.

Sam and James planned a skills based cricket game designed to improve batting accuracy.

Everone was involved in Ben and Jay's "fun obstacle"  game. Team work, communication and cooperation were all needed ,

At the end of the session it was decided thatt most games were successful. A good time was enjoyed by all.

Greek Week

This week with only 7 children left the work haad a thematic approach to learn more about the Ancient Greeks.Mr.Davies planned activities that included learning about the Greek myth " The 12 labours of Hercules." Children then planned and wrote their own 13th labour. They learned the Greek alphabet. In sciienec they leanred about the Greek inventor Archimedes and his invention of the Archimedes Screw- a device to carry water from the bottom of a hill to the top. Everyon made their own version but designed to carry cereal rather than water.
Desinging and making  our versions ofArchimedes Screw.

Will they work? Can they transport cereal from the tray?

Samba ,Knex Live and Learn and much more...

Class 3 have had a busy few weeks. We enjoyed an afternoon of learning to play the Samba drums. Some children had a fun morning taking part in the Knex challenge-especially Mathhew and Oscar who won.All of class 3 helped and supported younger children at Sports Day showing lots of Olympic values .Our first Gold certificates were awarded to Amelia ,Ella and Katie L -well done on this achievement . This week is a bit different in class 3 as most are away at the residential visit.Apart from being much quieter all lessons have a thematic approach to them -everything is linked to the Greeks. Watch this space for a back log of photos -they will appear as soon as I find a computer that allows me to upload them!

June 11-22nd

In English we have started our extended novel focusing on Kensuke's Kingdom . Working with Mr Davies children are reading the book together , learning about the characters , predicting and discussing ideas and finding out how a good writer makes a story interesting . During the week children stood in the outline of the PeggySue (the boat on which the family set out on their adventure) and were able to visualise what it would be like living in such a small space . Children will be coming home with reading homework so please talk and discuss the chapter that they are asked to read together. . Our spelling unit is 15 and we have already spent a week looking at the focus so the test is this Friday (22nd). In Live and Learn Like a Champion our focus is courage . Most children have now completed at least their Bronze award so please continue to help and support the activities in the booklet. We have had a run through of some of our sports events in readiness for a dry and sunny Sports Day this Wednesday and are all hoping that the weather is kind unlike on Friday when unfortunately Small School Sports was cancelled due to a water logged field. On Friday those children who applied to Mrs Marshall , enjoyed taking part in the Knex challenge. Well done Oscar and Matthew for designing and making the winning stadium.(photos will follow)
