Willow Pattern Work

As promised- an update on our Willow Pattern work. We have written our own versions of the legend and are going to type these up and make them into a book for everyone to read as they are really very good and deserve an audience.
We have written poems based on the legend using different styles -haiku, using similes, If only I were a dove poems and still have 1 more day of work to do.
Some of the poems have been written up and are proudly on display on the foyer board.
Take a look and read our work if you come into school.
We hope you will be impressed.

Maths in class 3-update

This week we have been learning all about time. How to tell the time on analogue and digital clocks using 12 and 24 hour notation. To show what we had learned we worked in groups to produce posters and fact files that could be used in future lessons to teach the tricky bits to anyone who was having difficulty
Lots of apparatus and ideas

good team work, all doing their bit

everyone had lots of ideas of what to do and how to present their ideas

clock faces to show half and quarter past

using clock stamps

discussing next steps

.I look forward to using some of the new resources when I next teach time. Some resources will be laminated and put in our class time box for anyone to use, others will be mounted on card.g.-the lift the flap resource. Good maths class 3.Time is not an easy subject.
Here are some of our posters on display.

English-The Willow Pattern

We have started to look at The Willow Pattern legend in our English lessons. Mrs Chadwick brought in some of her grandmas coffee set, Vincent brought in a towel and a plate also showing the pattern. We spent time looking at the pictures and thinking about who, when, where, what and why? (the 5 W's).
We also thought about what the story could be telling.
looking at the story on the towel

comparing the tea pot with a picture of plate on the interactive board

plates, saucers and a sugar bowl do they show the same?

what about the cups?
We have started our shared writing  making our own legend up based on some images. Our ideas are far superior to some of the printed versions of the actual legend.
Sophie brought in a beautiful cushion which also showed the pattern.

Keep watching for updates.

Dojo winners term 2

Our top Dojo winners were presented with their certificates. As well as these the children also agreed on the extra rewards that they had earned based on the number of dojos they accumulated over term 2. Children chose a non uniform day for the top 10, special cushions for days, raffle tickets and a congratulations letter home. All their own ideas for rewards which I was happy to agree to.

All these children gained equal to or over the class average of 45 dojos.

The top 3-Sophie gained 85 dojos.

Well done to all these children.

We Are Fundraisers

At the end of term class 3 held a fundraising event as a culmination of their ICT We Are Fundraisers unit. Each group had a budget of £10 from which all expenses had to be paid and the £10 had to be paid back at the end- a treasurer was appointed for each group. Groups decided on their own charities and what they were going to produce and sell.
All prepared -just waiting for customers.

Review of 2013

This week we have been looking back over the last year.We split into groups and worked on areas of personal interest-sport, music, entertainment, news, technology and extra facts.
We spent time discussing and noting down what we already knew, then made notes about what details we wanted to find out. We found them out by asking(Mrs Chadwick was sadly able to confirm the cricket highs and lows of 2013!) or by using the internet.
When we were ready we wrote out our information, found pictures and photos and presented it all on A3 paper.
Finally we shared our work with the rest of the class and Mrs Marshall-children had been really excited and kept telling her little snippets of information whenever they passed her office on the way to the printer! She therefore asked if she could come in when we did our sharing so she could see exactly what each group had been doing.
I found out that they made a "onesie " for a horse-I've seen the photo! I'd also forgotten several of the news facts that were presented.
A super few days worth of cross curricular learning.

The entertainment group-they produced a top 5 of films , books and shows.

The music group-which was the best selling song of 2013? Ask these girls!

The sport group-rugby, cricket, golf, football, F1 and more were all recorded including a dream football team of 2013

The news group-remember the storm on 29th October? This group do-Storm Saint Jude.

The techno trio-cars, gadgets, glasses, tablets- all new for 2013.If you want to know what was special about the glasses etc-now you know who to ask.

For those snippets that did not merit their own heading-this group put them altogether. Here you will find the blue" onsie "wearing horse!
All work is on display in the classroom. The personal reviews of 2013 will also be displayed alongside .
