RE ,Battleships and wonderful diary writing.

In RE we have been looking at emotions. We have listened to music and said what emotions pieces provoked in us, we wrote in colours to show these emotions and this week we have been trying to guess what people are showing.
Children had to pick an emotion card  and an action card and perform the action portraying the emotion.
Can you guess what emotions are being shown ?

some recognised the emotions
some proved funny

some could not stop smiling even though they had to sip the drink cautiously

great mime -  identified by the class
again-just can't stop smiling

so serious

                                                                    Oscars at the ready!
great facial expressions

need a few more clues please

1 person thinks they know

almost ready to put our actions into a mime sequence for the class to work out what is being shown

A good RE lesson.

Battleships.
In maths we have been learning to read and plot coordinates in different quadrants.( from 1st to all 4 quadrants).
What better way to put this into practice than with a game of battleships!

Taken very seriously -hiding our battleships from our partners.

using our negative readings in all 4 quadrants

have I hit a ship?

again-a fun lesson that really honed our coordinate reading and plotting skills.

In English we have been writing our diary entries as Anglo Saxons invading "Angle Land" and have written a series of excellent entries that show the ups and downs of the Saxons journey across the sea on their rowing boats. The standard of writing has been fabulous and the class has been fully engaged and looking forward to writing the next entry.Class 3 received a class certificate in recognition of the effort and application that has been put in over the last week. Well done class 3 .I am really proud of you and the work you have written.

Our Animal Day

On Tuesday we had a "creative day" with an animal focus. The whole school spent the day completing animal themed activities.
Class 3 enjoyed baking animal shaped biscuits with Mrs Millar, writing different animal poetry with Mrs Chadwick- poems based on Blake's Tyger Tyger poem, Haikus, Cinquains and Kennings,( Look out for our new writing display coming soon in school ), animal Top Trumps cards with Mr Campbell, art work with Mrs Duller and Mrs Richardson and Wordles and Tagxedos. ( ask your child to tell you or show you these).
And of course we never miss an opportunity to dress up! We could wear animal clothes- from Onesies to hats, to cuddly toys on desks...
Baking our biscuits

Did the biscuits get home or were they eaten?

Researching ready for our animal Top Trumps cards...

how fast... endangered rating...how tall...?

A poetry group-we read William Blakes classic Tyger Tyger poem then looked at another poem that showed what happens to tigers in captivity and then  wrote our own Tyger Tyger Turning White poems.

Another poetry group working on their Kennings to describe their chosen animals.

Collage work- a Panda collage in progress ( a fabulous result at the end)

art work-paper plate masks, collages, felt, fur fabric...

great fun!
When asked if they had enjoyed the day- a unanimous YES , can we do it again tomorrow echoed around the class!

Mrs Duller was impressed with Elise-she showed creativity, originality and application and so received a special certificate in our celebrations assembly.

Totemic visitor -Dragons' Den Event

Mrs Clack from Totemic came to tell us about money and budgeting. We learned that in costs approximately £250.000 to bring up a child!
We looked at various budgets , looking at credits and debits and worked out how much money was left after bills for other things like entertainment and clothes! Not many of us knew that so much money was needed to cover bills-only 1 knew you needed a TV licence- and how much it cost per month.

busy thinking, answering and calculating

On our next visit we will each be given a budget of £10 each and set the task of making the money grow. We will be taken to Totemic and given some ideas and finally the best group will present their portfolio in a Dragons' Den event together with 2 other primary schools.

Christmas Maths Investigations
In the last week we had a folder of Christmas maths problems to solve. These included trying to solve Maths-Doku problems, where Christmas trees were planted, Santa's age,how many branches on a Christmas tree and lots more-got us really thinking and working well together as well as solving some tricky maths!
2 heads are better than one!

                                                                     how about ...

Christmas hats-to help us think Christmas  and hopefully solve the                                                                       problems quicker
The tree must be plated here because......

All working hard and enjoying the maths

Some great investigating class 3.
